Scam: Can media licensing prevent fraudulent activities effectively?

"I had a job interview via video call before being told I was successful and had to report to Bangkok, Thailand. They also gave me a flight ticket." - Victim, Refer: Victims of job scam syndicate in Myanmar tortured, locked up

Work fraud syndicates are clearly becoming more prevalent, both inside and outside the country. This crime grows like a mushroom, spreading until it gets attention; among them happened last April, involving the semi-democratic country, Myanmar. Ps- One of The Cyber-Scam Factories...

Unpaid work, locked up and tortured...The cause is being influenced by job advertisements offering high wages. Then receive an interview call via video network in 2022. Before being transited abroad with free shipping costs, it's like the hottest imported item from Malaysia!

In August 2023, the UN reported that over 120,000 people, mainly men from Asia, were coerced into working at scam centers in Myanmar. Read: Cambodia: Hundreds of Indians rescued from cyber-scam factories

Fraudsters confidently advertise "bogus" jobs across online platforms, including social media and job search websites. Occasionally, they design the ads to resemble those from legitimate companies.

Reflecting on the 2024 Budget: MCMC supports the Government in strengthening its functions The National Scam Response Center (NSRC) added provisions to RM20 million to further increase NSRC's eradication function 2 online fraud crime or scam.

- Chairman of MCMC

As it turns out, the partnership has resulted in the "Social Media Licensing" initiative, which some Malaysians believe can help fight scam crimes in their nation. Ps- MCMC gives licenses to social media platforms. Users don't have to get a license. Dot Dot!

Has Fahmi Fadhzil, the Minister of Communications and Digital, verified this? No... But... Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, the PMX, made a statement on August 2 of last month.

"Is this (Social Media Licensing) justified? There is Scam, which has reached over 2.5 billion ringgit. Scam means that many people are deceived, using the facilities of social media." - PMX click: Kenakan Lesen Pada Platform Media Sosial

By the end of October, a code of conduct for social media service licensing will be released by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).

Consider "How MCMC can kiss scam crimes through Media Licensing?" rather than "How can media licensing prevent scam crimes?".

Can you "block" by "ordering" social media service providers (Malaysians ?) to register social media licenses?

So what is the function of the NSRC?

Originally set up as an operations center to coordinate rapid response to online "financial" fraud. Including tracking stolen "funds" more quickly and taking enforcement action against criminals.

One of the cybersecurity experts, Derek John Fernandez expressed his opinion; NSRC needs to be improved from focusing only on the "fund" route to combating scam crimes... read: Expert calls for NSRC overhaul

“The policies of NSRC must be pushed to reduce scam risks. My view is that the agency now has insufficient resources to carry out a full service to cover all complaints of scams." - Cybersecurity law expert Derek John Fernandez

Well, it seems Media Practitioners will have to wait until the end of this October... And believe Fahmi Fadzil (MCMC included) has a wow-idea-fist to crush scam crimes... We believe in Madani!
