KUALA LUMPUR : Deputy Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, emerges from the high court as a liberated individual, as the court has granted the prosecution' request to dismiss the corruption charges against him, resulting in his release without being acquitted.
Following the acceptance of a representation letter sent by his legal team, the Attorney General's Chambers proceeded to request a review of the charges against him.
Prior to this, Deputy public prosecutor Datuk Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar informed the court of the prosecution's intention to suspend the ongoing legal proceedings pertaining to all charges pressed against Zahid.
" In accordance with the provisions in Article 145 of the federal constitution and Section 254 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, the prosecution wishes to stop the proceedings on all charges against the accused ( Zahid ) by submitting 11 reasons." Sources : Scoop.my
Zahid had requested for the charges against him concerning the misuse of RM31 million funds from Yayasan Akalbudi (YAB), his foundation, to be dismissed. He claimed that new evidence had emerged in the case.
Last year, on January 24, the 68-year-old individual was instructed to present his defense in response to all 47 corruption allegations related to the charity foundation he established.
Zahid's corruption charges have been dismissed, granting him freedom as he exits the courtroom.
